With 2019 in full swing, we’d love to take a look back on the year that was, and divulge our favourite engagement party trends for 2018.
It was a beautiful year for engagements, with couples choosing casual-yet-elegant themes that let them celebrate in relaxed style. What’s more, it was a year filled with breaks from the traditional way of doing things, and led to couples personalising their celebrations. After all, it’s a party to showcase your love, right?
Rooftop celebrations
There’s no better location than a rooftop with a view – so why not host an engagement party there? Australia is full of stunning scenery that’s best seen from above, and with the great weather the country has to offer, outdoor parties are a perfect idea.
The perfect thing about rooftops is they can be adapted to suit your number of guests, and how formal you want the party to be. A mid-morning brunch celebration lets your guests enjoy the morning sun (and a mimosa or two), and a canapes-and-cocktails affair will take you from mid-afternoon to dusk if you want things a bit more glamorous. String up fairy lights to light the space and you’ve created an intimate atmosphere to party the night away.
Photo walls
It was a trend that was splashed all across Instagram, and it was one we loved – decadent photo walls that allowed guests to take fun, bright and colourful snaps with each other. There’s no limit to how you could design your wall – an array of in-season flowers, streamers cascading from the ceiling, metallic balloons, foliage and greenery (hello to another trend from last year!) and a string of tassels are some ideas. Your guests will walk away with fantastic memories and a great photo to post on Insta.
The personal touch
2018 also saw hosts treating their guests to something special to represent the happy couple’s relationship. From menus that showcase the couple’s favourite foods, to drinks lists that let guests sample their most memorable cocktails, and slideshows of photos that feature everyone in the room – every element should reference the couple. Personalisation also saw its way into wedding decor and stationery – think hand lettering on the invitations, thank-you cards and placecards at the table and you’re on the right track.
Food & drink
The easier the better, in this case, as it leaves little room for error. Make a mimosa stations with glass bottles of sparkling wine and orange juice for the guests to mix their own breakfast cocktails, decorate their own cupcakes or generally have fun with food!
